Mounties have charged a 39-year-old Centreville man with trying to rob Canning’s Valley Credit Union last Friday.

“At approximately 9:30 a.m. on June 14, it was reported that a man had entered a business carrying a gun,” said an RCMP news release. “Gun shots were reported but no one was injured. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.”

Police tried nabbing the driver on the road but he wouldn’t stop. “A short time later, Kings District RCMP located the suspect outside of a home on Hwy 359 in Centreville and arrested him without incident.”

Leif Spilchen faces a slew of charges including committing a robbery with a firearm, wearing a mask while committing an indictable offence, using a gun to commit a crime, using violence, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm and fleeing police.

In October 2017, Spilchen pleaded guilty to robbing the credit union in Hantsport the previous year.
