A boy will face four charges after Dartmouth High School was locked down Wednesday in a weapons scare.

The 15-year-old will appear in Halifax provincial court on charges of assault with a weapon, threats, pointing a firearm and possession of a weapon.

There were no injuries in the incident, which began shortly after 3 p.m., when police were told a male youth had threatened another male youth with what was believed to be a gun at the school at 95 Victoria Rd.

“The suspect then fled into the school and was believed to be in possession of the gun,” Halifax Regional Police said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

The huge response — police vehicles lined the roads in the area — included a crisis negotiator, investigators from the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division, an emergency response team, school response officers and a K-9 unit. Officers secured the area, closing down Victoria Road from Thistle Street to Nantucket Avenue.

Officers searched the school and found a fake gun. The suspect surrendered at about 5 p.m. and the lockdown was lifted at about 5:30 p.m.

“Police thank students, parents, school officials and the public for their cooperation and patience as we dealt with this difficult situation,” HRP said in the release.
