TRURO, N.S. — Boris Johnson has been elected as leader of the UK Conservative Party and will become Britain's next prime minister.
The results of the leadership contest were announced on Tuesday, with Johnson receiving 92,153 compated to 46,656 for Jeremy Hunt.
The former mayor of London will replace Theresa May as prime minister on Wednesday.
Almost 160,000 Conservative members were eligible to vote for their new leader and turnout was 87.4 per cent. There were 509 ballots rejected.
