TRURO, N.S. — Nova Scotia RCMP is warning the public about suspicious phone calls where the caller asked for credit card or personal information.

In each instance, the targeted person’s caller ID showed the caller’s number as ‘911’, followed by a regular seven-digit telephone number. If those targeted tried phoning the number back, they were connected to emergency services because the number started with 911.

The RCMP is asking the public not to call back unknown numbers starting with 911, as this will result in accidentally calling emergency services.

Police are also reminding people not to give personal or financial information to callers they don't know.
