Two people were taken to hospital early Saturday morning after a fiery single-vehcle crash in Hammonds Plains.

An RCMP officer driving south on Hammonds Plains Road at 12:35 a.m. met a vehicle going at a high speed and turned around to pursue it, police said in a news release.

While searching for the vehicle, the officer came upon the crash at the intersection of Pockwock and Hammonds Plains roads.

A small white car was on fire, one young male ejected from the car was on the road and another young male was in the driver’s seat.

The officer put out the fire and gave medical assistance to both crash victims while awaiting medical assistance.

Both males sustained serious injuries, RCMP said. The car damaged two utility poles.

Police were at the scene for several hours and Hammonds Plains Road was closed to traffic while an RCMP collision analyst examined the scene.
