Penny Lighthall is ready to lead people on a journey into their subconscious mind, where animal spirit guides await.
Lighthall, who has a Masters in Metaphysical Philosophy, and is a Certified Spirit Guide Coach and an experienced rug hooker. She and Suzie Stephenson, also an intuitive consultant and rug hooker, will lead a workshop called Meet and Hook Your Animal Spirit Guides.
“This marries my two favourite passions,” said Lighthall.
“We’ll be focusing on the Chakra system (energy centres) down the centre of the body. I’ll lead people in meditation where they’ll meet an animal associated with each of the seven chakras at that time in their lives. Everything they will see, including background and what the animal is doing, means something.
“We’ll go through the spiritual properties of each animal and give tips on designing a rug and hooking.”
A spirit guide facing left is connected with the past, while those facing right are connected with the future and those head on represent something in the present.
Lighthall recently meditated and discovered her current animal spirit guides are the zebra, mouse, cardinal, goose, polar bear, walrus and tiger.
She said there’s no hierarchy in the spirit guide kingdom, and an ant is equal to a bear – just with a different message to bring. Some of the guides can be fantasy animals such as unicorns and griffins.
“Many cultures believe we can learn a lot from animals and the spirit of an animal has messages to bring,” she said. “At one time we were tuned in to these. If you’re paying attention to the world around you, real animals can be animal messengers.”
Sometimes seeing an animal, or its image, appearing many times is a sign it’s a spirit guide. For quite a long time, Lighthall was seeing pictures of giraffes in many places and people were giving her giraffe figurines.
“Their spirit energy is about communication,” she said. “They don’t make sounds and I had a feeling I wasn’t being heard and was sticking my neck out to be heard.”
Some spirit guides stay for a long time, but others are only with someone for a short period.
“People come to this type of event seeking information; they come seeking guidance,” said Lighthall. “They want to know what message they’re missing.”
The workshop is being held April 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Douglas St. Recreation Centre. The cost is $111, and a light lunch is included.
