Brandt Eisner has donned the blades many times but lacing up in drag will be a first.
On Feb. 9, the Truro man will participate in Babes on Blades, an event being held at the Emera Oval in Halifax to raise money for the Children’s Wish Foundation.
“I love skating and I’ve been on skates since I could walk,” said Eisner. “My family is into hockey and I grew up on a lake. I’ve been doing drag and I always thought it would be fun to combine it with skating. So when this came along, and it’s also raising money for a good cause, I thought it was perfect.
“Being outside in drag in the winter brings in a whole new element; I just hope it’s not too windy. I’ll probably try to wear something really crazy and fun that doesn’t hinder movement too much.”
Babes on Blades was organized by Nova Scotia drag queens and kings who wanted to give back to the community and to give youth and families a chance to see and talk to them.
More than $13,000 was raised in 2018, and participants hope to exceed that amount this year.
“I think this will end up being a really fun community event,” said Eisner. “I’d encourage people to choose someone to sponsor and help make this a success.”
