Bartender Thomas Yeo, representing Highwayman in Halifax, won the 10th-anniversary edition of the national Made With Love competition for mixologists.

Yeo, who works at the Atwater Cocktail Club in Montreal, took top honours at the finals Monday in Halifax.

This year, the challenge to the 10 participants was to create a cocktail based on one of six courses offered during a traditional gastronomic dinner. Each bartender was assigned a course and a main ingredient.

The Fee Fye Faux Pho, Yeo’s winning drink, contained Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Vietnamese herb syrup, pho-spiced pineapple juice, lime juice, Thaï chili sauce and concentrated pho broth.

Andrew Keyes, from Lot Six Bar and Restaurant in Halifax, finished second.

All the national finalists will receive a trip to one of the competition’s partner distilleries.
