TRURO, N.S. —

Cory Lowe decided to combine his passion for cars with an effort to help children.
He worked to organize Cruise 4 a Cure, an automobile meetup that will raise funds for the Children’s Wish Foundation.
“This is the first year for it,” said Lowe. “A friend and I wanted to step up to the plate and show people we care.
“I’ve loved cars, and have been going to car events, since I was young, so this seemed like a good idea.”
All types of cars are welcome to take part in the meet, with vehicles gathering at the parking lot by the Colchester Legion Stadium and Cougar Dome.
“I plan to drive to Stewiacke and meet some of the people at Mastodon Ridge, then we’ll drive to the Circle K on Robie Street and meet people coming from New Brunswick,” he said.
Although the group holding the event is called Cars Against Cancer, funds raised will help grant wishes for children with a variety of life-threatening conditions.
“The main thing is to help,” said Brandon Taylor, co-organizer of the event. “Children are going through horrible things so it’s nice to help in some way.”
Entry fees are $2, and Lowe encourages people to register ahead of time so he’ll know approximately how many people to expect and will have signs ready for them.
“If they don’t reach me ahead of time they’re welcome to just show up,” he added. “We’re getting interest from quite a few people now, so I’ll hope we get a good crowd.”
He hopes to have food trucks on site during the meet. The event will take place June 1 and runs from noon until 3 p.m.
