Annual Mawi'omi returns to the NSCC Truro campus

Hundreds of spectators come to see the traditional Mi'kmaq ceremony

Performers from across Canada came dressed in the traditional regalia of their people at the Mawi'omi in Truro on Wednesday.

In the Mi’kmaq language, the word ‘Mawi’omi’ means ‘gathering’ and is a traditional social event, similar to the powwows held by other First Nations groups elsewhere in North America.
