HUNTINGTON, N.S. — Snow in the forecast this week can only serve to accentuate the authentic scenes of Christmas cheer which Two Rivers Wildlife Park officials are working to create this holiday season.
Beginning Thursday, park visitors can take part in the Two Rivers Winter Light-Up Trail that brings wholesome old-style, festive fun to the park during the colder months.
“It’s a great night. It’s really nice, but when it snows a bit it is absolutely beautiful, even if it is just a light dusting,” said Rosemary MacLean, a park employee.
“It’s nice anyway but when you have a bit of snow on the trees it is beautiful walking down through it.”
Each night from Thursday through until Monday and then again from Dec. 27-29 the park is transformed into a winter wonderland as part of the important annual fundraiser.
Visitors can arrive anytime after 5:30 p.m. each night and stay as late as 8:30 p.m.

The attraction includes a horse-drawn wagon ride from the park’s parking lot that takes you to the trail that has been decorated for Christmas by park employees and volunteers.
The wagon ride ends in front of the recreation cabin, which serves as the first stop on the tour.
Inside is hot chocolate and a hotdog (included in the admission price) and musicians playing guitars and singing Christmas carols.
“From there you venture out the back door onto the trail where you will walk about half a kilometre, through there it is all lit up with Christmas lights, there are a few different displays,” said MacLean.
“Besides outdoor displays, there are a few cabins with displays. A couple of covered bridges also have displays.”
Santa, the star attraction on the trail, is found at the very end of the tour in a warm cabin where he will pose for pictures with children and help them decorate cookies.
Once everyone has met Santa and decorated a cookie, they can walk through the trail for a second look or hitch a ride on the horse-drawn wagon back to their car.
“It is awesome, a great family event,” said MacLean. “We see a lot of kids, everybody is excited down there. It is very nice.”
Tickets are $10 per person and free for children two and under. Advance sales are available by contacting the park at 902-727-2483.
The tour takes about an hour to complete so those interested are advised to arrive no later than 7:30 p.m.
Santa will only be part of the tour until Dec. 23.
