TRURO, N.S. — To ensure safety and fun, this year’s Santa Claus Parade is being held during the afternoon.
The festive event will take place Sunday, Nov. 24 at 4 p.m.
Truro’s parade has been held during the evening for the past few years, so that the holiday lights would show up brightly.
Jenn Mantin, executive director of the Downtown Truro Partnership (DTP), said the decision to change the time was made by the partnership and Truro Town Council to make the celebration safer. Last year a small child was killed after being run over by a float during an evening Christmas parade in Yarmouth.
It was decided to hold the parade on Sunday so street closures wouldn’t affect downtown businesses.
“Sunday, beginning at 1 p.m., parking along the parade route won’t be allowed,” said Mantin. “This will allow for better viewing. For anyone with disability issues, who needs to be in a vehicle, there will be a special area for parking.”
Information on parking will be posted on the DTP website and on social media.
Bleachers will be placed on Prince St. beside Sun Spun Natural Foods and Fine Gifts, on Prince St. in front of the Marigold Cultural Centre and on Young St. in front of the Truro Fire Service station.
