BARRINGTON. N.S. – Lucy the Lobster will be front and centre again this Groundhog Day in the Lobster Capital of Canada (Municipality of Barrington) in search of her shadow officially kicking off the second annual South Shore Lobster Crawl.

Lucy had her debut last year on the waterfront in North East Point, Cape Sable Island, attracting world-wide media attention. She will be crawling out of the Atlantic Ocean in North East Point at 8 a.m. to join fellow prognosticators Wiarton Willie and Shubenacadie Sam to offer her prediction.

The South Shore Lobster Crawl , which runs from Feb. 1 to 18, was initiated last year by the SSTC as a way to boost winter tourism in the region.“We’re pretty excited to welcome back Lucy the Lobster on Groundhog Day,” said Donna Hatt, chair of the South Shore Tourism Cooperative (SSTC), inviting people to cheer Lucy on from the shoreline in person on Feb. 2, or to follow along on Twitter or via Facebook Live.

“Having whet their appetite with the wildly successful inaugural festival last year, Crawl goers will need to chart their course carefully to take in as many of the crustacean events as possible,” reads a press release.

Blown away by the diversity and volume of events registered for the 2019 Lobster Crawl, Hatt, says it is exciting and inspiring.

“We’re pretty passionate about our lobster fishing heritage and culture here on the South Shore, and we love eating lobster. We love eating it steamed, in rolls, in our beer and linguini. We love it paired with wine and we’ll even run, cycle and throw stones for it. But most of all we want to share it with our guests, when it’s in season here on our South Shore, in winter” says Hatt.

Crawlers can begin charting their course at Lobstercrawl.ca , the official website for the event, which features more than 100 lobster and lobster-inspired dishes, rolls, events, tours and getaway packages in six categories.

Fans of eating lobster are expected to be lured into the ‘Lobster Rolls’ and ‘Sip n’ Savour’ categories while those interested in the heritage and culture will tuck into the collection of 28 possibilities under the Arts, Cultural Events and Shopping category.

There’s also a great lineup of live music along the shore and for those wanting to be more active in winter, cycling, curling, hiking and even surfing adventures are on tap.
