TRURO, N.S.

Self-directed discussion about death will be the focus at Truro’s first Death Café.

“This is something that will provide people with an opportunity to chat about issues around death,” said Craig Johnson, executive director of the Colchester-East Hants Hospice Society.

“At this they could talk about wills and estates, or maybe they lost someone close to them and want to talk about that.”

A Death Café is designed as a safe, confidential space to share questions, fears and curiosity about death. They exist in 52 countries, and a few gatherings have already been held in Nova Scotia. They are run on a volunteer basis, with the hospice society organizing the local event.

The Truro Death Café will be held at the library on Saturday, March 24, from 2-4 p.m., and will include tea, coffee and cake. Because space is limited, people are asked to register by calling 902-895-4183.
