BIBLE HILL, N.S. —

As a resident of Bible Hill, becoming the village’s parks and recreation director is something Josh Kennedy considers an ideal fit.

Kennedy, 34, grew up in Cape Breton and has been living in the area for 10 years. He’s worked as a programmer with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and in recreation for Shannex, and has been with the Colchester County recreation department for the past four years.

“With the county, I had been doing a lot of work with Cody (Brown) and when I heard he was leaving I felt this position was the next step for me,” he said. “It’s nice to have a couple of weeks working here with Cody.”

Kennedy He was hired on June 17 and the last day with the village for Cody Brown, who has headed up parks and recreation since the fall of 2015, is July 1. Brown is going on to train as an RCMP officer.

Both men are big fans of the Canada Day celebrations, and are working on them together this year.

“I have children, aged nine and five, and we really like the Back to School Bash and Safe Halloween too,” said Kennedy. “I love the parks and trails here. I do a lot of mountain biking through the trails.”

He also enjoys golfing and playing hockey.

“I like to be out and be part of the community,” he said. “We have some great assets and I want everything to be as accessible and inclusive as possible so everyone can be a part of things.”
