It’s a good time to clear off the bookshelves and make room for new reading.
The 4th Annual Colchester Book Fair will be held in May and donations are now being accepted. The Bible Hill Kinsmen partner with a charity each year, and this year they’re raising funds for the Colchester East Hants branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
“With them raising money for their new building, we decided it was a good choice,” said Brent Pettis, chair of the committee organizing the sale. “They’ll help with sorting and collecting books, and at the event.”
In previous years, the Kinsmen partnered with the library, VON and Slate Youth Centre. About $9,000 was raised at last year’s event.
Donations can include books, puzzles, games, DVDs, CDs, vinyl and comic books. People are asked not to drop off technical manuals, encyclopedias, textbooks, magazines, VHS tapes, or Reader’s Digest condensed editions, as they rarely sell.
“Games and puzzles sell really well,” said Pettis. “Soft-cover fiction is very popular, and anything to do with the Maritimes.
“We get a lot of really nice books in; some of them are brand new.
Books will be sold by weight again, with hard covers costing $1.25 per pound and soft covers, $1.50.
The book fair will be held at the Truro Mall May 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. and May 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Books can be dropped at the mall, in a bin near the Bell Aliant store, Masstown Market, Shur Gain Feeds ’n Needs, Fundy Appliance, Truro Farmers’ Market and both Sobeys locations.
