NORTH RIVER, N.S. —

It seems we may have finally made it out of this year’s long winter.

With April now well underway, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colchester is embracing spring and looking forward to summer, and our excitement to open Fundy Scoops builds!

Right now, our charity is focused on hiring staff for the dairy bar. If you’re a student, either in high school or university, and you’re interested in becoming a team member at Fundy Scoops, we encourage you to head to our website or Facebook page for more information on how to apply. Not only will you be gaining valuable customer service skills and basic employability skills, but you’ll also have the opportunity to get hands-on experience working in a non-profit organization through our Learn to Lead program.

“We hope to provide a supportive and positive work environment for our summer students,” said Nick Sharpe, executive director with the agency. “At the end of the summer we want our staff to walk away feeling like they now have the skills and confidence to not only be a part of the workforce but also make clearer decisions about their future career plans.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters aims to open Fundy Scoops in early to mid May with lots of fun stuff planned, aside from the ice cream eating.

“We want Fundy Scoops to be somewhere you can bring your family and spend the afternoon,” said Sharpe. “Take your dog for a walk on one of our trails, play one of our life-sized games like Yahtzee, or round up a group of friends for a volleyball match.”

The organization hopes that, in time, Fundy Scoops can develop into a community landmark.

“Our hope with the added features to the green space and the games and activities that will be available to community members is that one day our dairy bar can be a source of nostalgia in the same way the Fundy Dairy Bar and Molly’s Diary Bar were,” which were previously located there, said Sharpe. “We envision our space to be a destination community members can add to their list of things to do in Colchester.”

Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for a new social media presence for Fundy Scoops. That’s where you’ll find all the most up-to-date information on the dairy bar such as the hours and operation, and likely a few teasers for what’s to come. You can also head to our website, bbbscolchester.ca

Big Brothers Big Sisters also wants to thank the community for their ongoing support through our move to North River and our new venture of Fundy Scoops Dairy Bar. None of this would be possible without you! The charity goal is to serve more quality programs and services to the children and youth in this community, and we believe these changes will allow us to do just that.
