TRURO, N.S. — Lorraine Crowe couldn’t find skincare products she was happy with, so she made her own.
“I was suffering from adult acne and tried creams, pills and other treatments but nothing seemed to work,” she said. “I decided to become more educated, so I read what I could find and enrolled in a program on holistic nutrition. It addressed not only food, but things like stress, sleep and cleansers. You have to look at everything that affects the body.”
She became a licensed holistic nutrition and health practitioner, became certified in making natural skincare products, trained in aromatherapy, and is working toward a diploma in natural skincare formulation.
Crowe made products for her own use, and then shared with friends and family, who suggested she make them to sell.
“I chose the name Rain because of my name being Lorraine and because rain hydrates,” she said. “I work with oils that are rejuvenating and regenerating and the products are geared for mature skin. Pick oils that feel good and have beneficial qualities.”
Now, at age 52, she has a line that includes cruelty-free lotions, butters, cleansers, day and night creams, undereye creams and serums. She doesn’t use perfumes, but some things include essential oils.
Bible Hill resident Tammy Martin, 44, was looking for something to help with dry skin when she discovered Rain.
“At first, I was a little skeptical,” she said. “A couple of months ago I got the day and night creams and I was really happy with them. My skin feels super soft and it’s not dry. I recently got cleanser and eye cream.
“There’s no way I’m going back to other products because this works.”
Rain products are handcrafted in small batches in a studio in Truro.
“I love doing this and I enjoy knowing I’ve created something that’s beneficial for people’s skin,” said Crowe. “It’s great when I get positive feedback.”
Her skincare products can be purchased at Body Solace Studio, 14 Court St. (behind the Superstore) where she is a Pilates instructor, or online at https://www.rainnaturalskincare.com.
