The lyrics stay the same, but the tune beneath Juicy Fruit’s iconic jingle is getting a 2019 update.

The gum maker’s parent company, Mars, is asking Canadians to vote for a new version of the jingle, first released in 1986.

A list of 12 versions was narrowed down to four — pop, hip hop, country and R&B — “which were chosen based on the top genres currently trending on digital platforms, keeping the tune’s essence and playfulness.”

“In an age of what’s old is new, blasts from the past and #TBT, reviving the Juicy Fruit jingle will remind Canadians of this iconic song while introducing the brand to younger Canadians who didn’t grow up listening to it,” Jaclyn Sutton, head of Marketing and Strategy at Mars Wrigley Confectionery Canada, stated in a release.

“Our brand has always been about playfulness, so it was important for us to let Canadians have a say in the selection process.

The company also introduced an “OG Remix”, which is currently leading the way in voting with 37.7 per cent as of Tuesday morning.

People can listen to each and cast their vote at juicyfruitjingle.ca. Voting closes on May 25 and the winning jingle will be revealed on May 27.
