The National Energy Board has approved two applications to abandon the NEB-regulated parts of Exxon Mobil’s Sable Offshore Energy Project and Encana Corp.’s Deep Panuke Project.

Both projects, located offshore Nova Scotia, have stopped production. The Sable project stopped producing natural gas in December 2018 and will cost $52 million to abandon. EnCana Corp. expects to spend $11.7 million abandoning Deep Panuke, which ceased production in May 2018.

The NEB said in a Friday statement: “with appropriate mitigation, any potential environmental impacts could be minimized.”
