SYDNEY, N.S. — Recreational cannabis sales in Nova Scotia will go live online on the same day it becomes legal across the country on Oct. 17.
The Nova Scotia Liquor Corp. announced plans Tuesday for selling through its online site — myNSLC.com/Cannabis.
The website is expected to go live in the early morning hours of Oct. 17, according to NSLC.
In order to use the website to order cannabis, customers must first present valid identification to an NSLC store employee in order to obtain an access code card.
The liquor corporation says no personal information is connected to the access code, which must be entered every time a customer visits the website. The legal age to buy cannabis is 19.
“It’s important that we offer recreational cannabis to Nova Scotians in a safe and responsible manner,” Dave DiPersio, senior vice-president and chief services officer, said in a release.
“The NSLC team is working hard to have everything ready to go online and in-store when cannabis is legalized.”
The NSLC cannabis website will include detailed information on cannabis, customers will be able to enter the online checkout as a guest or create an account, and there will also be additional age verification. As well, all purchases will be delivered by Canada Post and there will be “responsible use messaging” featured prominently on the webpage.
Cannabis will also be sold at 12 NSLC stores across the province, including the outlet in Sydney River, the only Cape Breton location to buy cannabis in store.
NSLC says employee training is now complete and the first round of purchase orders has begun to arrive.
