MILLBROOK, N.S. – An international data communications company with its headquarters in Toronto has plans to open an office in Millbrook this spring.
OnX Solutions Enterprises has signed a five-year lease with the Millbrook Economic Development Corporation to establish a data centre and related services operation in the new strip mall being constructed at the Truro Power Centre.
Although OnX has some staff who work in Nova Scotia, the Millbrook location will be the first actual facility the company has in the province, said vice-president of services Terry Whiffing.
The lease agreement also represents the first tenant for the strip mall, said Millbrook First Nations Chief Bob Gloade.
“It’s extremely beneficial,” Gloade said, of OnX’s decision to set up shop at the Power Centre. “It’s a positive move for both the community and the area.”
The move will see the company leasing 7,500 sq. ft., at the back, corner section of the mall.
Gloade described the deal as a long-term agreement, renewable in five-year increments.
The target opening date is May 1 and Whiffing said the company expects the venture to create between eight and 10 new initial positions with plans to expand on that as its regional business grows.
“The location met some specific needs for our operation and the Millbrook team was able to provide a solution that worked very well for OnX,” he said.
Gloade said he is hoping to announce further lease agreements for the strip mall in the near future.
