CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A large Island employer, Diversified Metal Engineering (DME), is under receivership, affecting 140 workers on Prince Edward Island.
The departments of Workforce and Advanced Learning and Economic Development issued a statement Monday evening to The Guardian confirming DME’s Island operations have entered receivership.
“This is disappointing news, particularly for the affected employees and their families. Government will work swiftly to offer assistance to any affected employees to help them reattach to the workforce,” reads the statement.
“Workforce and Advanced Learning has reached out to DME. Skills P.E.I. staff will be reaching out to offer transition support services to ensure affected workers are provided information on programs and services to assist in the successful transition back to the workforce as quickly as possible.”
The move will affect the company's 140 workers here on the Island.
According to its website, the DME Group builds a wide range of products including bio extractors, marine exhaust scrubbers and cyclone separators, with most of its completed projects in the craft brewing industry.
DME operates two brewing systems manufacturers, Newlands Systems in Abbotsford, B.C., and DME Brewing Solutions in Charlottetown. Between them, the companies have built more than 1,600 breweries in 70 countries.
The entire DME group is made up of 400 employees across its three manufacturing facilities in Prince Edward Island, British Columbia and South Carolina.
The company’s corporate headquarters are located in Charlottetown, where DME was first incorporated in 1991.
