TRURO, N.S. – What is more Canadian than a hockey goalie eating poutine and saying sorry?

Jon Riley and Claire Maybee of Tatamagouche ask what is more Canadian than opening your gifts with the same axe you used to cut down your Christmas tree.

Stanfields’s, the underwear company from Truro, launched a Facebook and Instagram contest today asking Canadians about the most Canadian thing they can think of.

Stanfield’s Facebook post today shows a web-footed mammal eating a small sugary treat with the question “What is more Canadian than a beaver eating a Timbit?”

Peter Porteous, senior vice president of sales marketing for Stanfield’s, says Canadians can expect new photos and posts for the two weeks of the campaign.

To win a prize, Canadians can leave their own answer in the comments of the Stanfield’s posts or make their own post with the hashtag #morecanthanstan.

Porteous says this campaign builds off a series of commercials Stanfield’s produced and ran last fall called Canadian Pride.

“They were done in a light, tongue-in-cheek style and they were meant to play up our Made in Canada tradition – we are the only company in our category that is still producing domestically,” says Porteous.

He says the company saw lots of great social media comments and feedback last fall and they wanted to keep the fun going.

“We’re poking fun at Canadiana and we’re giving out prizes along the way,” says Porteous. “There was a really funny picture in the fall. It was a real picture of a Canadian RCMP officer with a beaver in his hand being interviewed for an article about conservation. What is more Canadian than that?”

Porteous says the campaign launch just happened to line up with Truro’s Winter Long Festival (complete schedule) but was meant to be part of celebrations for Canada’s 150th birthday.

“This is the kick off of a series of things we’re going to be doing over the next few months, leveraging Made in Canada, and building up to the big celebration for Canada 150,” said Porteous.

The full contest rules and regulations can be found on the Stanfield’s Facebook page – and the posts and comments can be seen on the Stanfield’s Facebook page or their Instagram account @stanfieldsltd.
