AMHERST, N.S. – It appears as though Amherst has lost another small business.

In a Facebook post late Sunday, the owners of Connors Family Restaurant announced the business is now closed.

“We as a family have made the hard decision to close our doors at Connor’s Family Restaurant after starting the business in 2008,” the MacDougall family said in their post. “We have been very blessed to have a great group of staff and support from amazing customers over the years and have included many into our extended family.”

The family rebuilt their business in July 2012 after the former location of Connor’s, in the former Smitty’s Restaurant on the corner of South Albion Street and Robert Angus Drive, was damaged by fire in May 2011.

Rod ‘Sport’ MacDougall grew up around the restaurant business. He was 12 when his father, also named Rod, opened Smitty’s in 1989. His father died in 2006.

It's unknown how many jobs are being impacted by the closure.
