HALIFAX, N.S. – Truro’s Jared McIsaac has been selected to play in the Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects game in Guelph, Ont., on Jan. 25.
McIsaac, a defenceman, was one of four Halifax Mooseheads chosen to compete in the event that showcases the CHL’s top 40 NHL draft-eligible players.
Other Mooseheads who will compete are forwards Filip Zadina and Beniot-Olivier Groulx and goaltender Alex Gravel, which is the largest contingent the team has ever sent to the event.
The four named this season brings Halifax’s total to 22 players to have played in the Top Prospects game.
McIsaac, six-foot-one, 193 pounds, has three goals and 15 assists in 31 games with the Mooseheads this season.
In mid-November, McIsaac laced ’em up for the QMJHL for two games in the Canada-Russia Series.
The Top Prospects game will be broadcast live on Sportsnet.
“The Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is a true showcase of our league’s rising stars and the next wave of NHL talent,” said CHL president David Branch.
Hundreds of NHL scouts will attend the annual game that in its previous 22 years has featured 14 players who were selected with the first overall pick in the NHL draft, including Chris Phillips (1996), Joe Thornton (1997), Vincent Lecavalier (1998), Rick Nash (2002), Marc-Andre Fleury (2003), Patrick Kane (2007), Steven Stamkos (2008), John Tavares (2009), Taylor Hall (2010), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (2011), Nathan MacKinnon (2013), Aaron Ekblad (2014), Connor McDavid (2015) and Nico Hischier (2017).
