Halifax Mooseheads take Groulx, then deal to get Truro native McIsaac at QMJHL draft

CHARLOTTETOWN – The Halifax Mooseheads made a splash to start the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft.

Truro native Jared McIsaac dons the Halifax Mooseheads colours after being taken second overall in the QMJHL draft at Charlottetown.

Former Mooseheads and Island natives Brent Andrews and Darcy Ashley announced Benoit-Olivier Groulx as the first overall pick at the Eastlink Centre Saturday morning.

The Herd then traded the seventh, 16th and 24th pick in this year’s draft and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies first-round pick in the 2017 draft to the Baie-Comeau Draakar for this year’s second overall pick.

Halifax then used the pick to select Truro, N.S., native Jared McIsaac, a defenceman who played with Cole Harbour last season.

The host Charlottetown Islanders pick 18th overall.
