Climie earns win in relief, Canada advances to Spengler Cup final

DAVOS, SWITZERLAND - Matt Climie was solid in more than 30 minutes of action on Wednesday as he helped Canada advance to the Spengler Cup final.

Climie, the former Truro Bearcats goaltender and Maritime Junior Hockey League MVP, was added to the roster prior to Canada's semifinal game against tournament host HC Davos. The addition was due to an injury to Canadian goaltender, and P.E.I. native, Drew MacIntyre.

After starting the game on the bench, Climie came in during the second period, when starter Jeff Glass allowed a goal to fall behind 4-1. Just 22 seconds later, Lower Sackville's James Sheppard scored to cut the lead. Matt Ellison scored twice more to tie the game. Davos scored to take the lead at 7:33 of the third period, but Canada scored twice more late in the frame to take a 6-5 win.

Canada will face either HC Lugano or Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, who meet in the second semifinal later Wednesday, in the championship game Thursday at 7 a.m. Atlantic time on TSN.
