Bearcats, Lumberjacks open playoffs Saturday at RECC


TRURO - The Truro Bearcats will open the playoffs at home to the South Shore Lumberjacks this Saturday evening at the RECC.

Truro Bearcats open at home Saturday night to the South Shore Lumberjacks in the first round of the playoffs.

The Bearcats clinched first in the MHL’s Eastlink South Division on the final day of the regular season when they earned a point in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Lumberjacks, Sunday.

Truro posted 58 points on a 25-15-5-3 (win/loss/overtime loss/shootout loss) record. South Shore finished with 51 points, good for fourth, on a 24-21-2-1 record.

Saturday’s opening game in the best-of-seven series gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Rath EastLink Community Centre.

Sunday, the venue switches to Bridgewater for Game 2 at the Lunenberg County Life Style Centre. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

The other South Division series has second-place Valley Jr. A Wildcats (26-17-2-3/57pts.) taking on third-place Pictou County Weeks Crushers (25-18-5-0/55pts.) It opens Friday night in Berwick at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, battling it out in the North Division are first-place Summerside Western Capitals facing fourth-place Campbellton Tigers, and Woodstock Slammers, who finished second, against third-place Dieppe Commandos. Both series open Thursday.
