TRURO, N.S. – Two members of the Colchester Royals were honoured for their outstanding play at last week’s Canadian under-19 men’s fastpitch championship.
Pitcher David Watson and utility player Cameron Patton were selected to the tournament’s all-star team at the 12-team championship played in Napanee, Ont.
Watson, of Milford, was a workhorse, pitching in seven of nine games and throwing 28.2 innings. He allowed just 12 hits, racked up 59 strike outs and posted a 2.19 earned run average. His win-loss record was 2-2.
Patton, a Bible Hill resident, was a beast at the plate, going 14-for-28 for a .500 batting average. In nine games, he stroked 12 singles, a double and a home run, while driving in six runs and scoring five times. Defensively, he had eight assists and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
The Royals finished the tournament with a record of 3-6. The host Napanee Express won the gold medal, defeating Chepstow Lang Farms 9-2 in the championship game.
