One more victory puts Cougars in provincial championships

TRURO, N.S.

The Cobequid Educational Centre Cougars boys soccer team is one win away from reaching the NSSAF provincial championship.

Saturday, on their home field, the Cougars shut out Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School Royals of Antigonish 5-0 in a Northumberland League Regional Division 1 final

Gabriel Tremblay opened the scoring at the 17-minute mark, and added another, along with Tomasso Batacchi and Tyler MacNeil to give CEC a 4-0 halftime lead. Tremblay rounded out his hat trick in the second half to make the final 5-0.

Ethan Dahr recorded the shutout for the Cougars.

CEC now hosts a quarter-final match this Saturday, with their opponent to be determined by a qualifying game this week. With a win, the Cougars advance to the four-team provincial championships Nov. 3-4, to be hosted in Halifax by the Metro Region champion.

Tuesday, CEC will host Newbridge Academy in an exhibition contest.
