New Truro and area minor baseball season underway

TRURO, N.S. – Teams in the Bible Hill-Truro Minor Baseball Association’s peewee/bantam division returned to the diamond on Wednesday for the first games of the new season.

At Stanfield’s Diamond, the Athletics downed the Red Sox 15-6, while the Yankees topped the Pirates 21-7.

Over at the Stadium fields, the Royals crowned the Astros 11-3 and the Blue Jays picked up an opening day victory over the Mets by a final of 14-2.

The Jays were led by Will Bowers, who pitched two flawless innings, striking out six. He helped his cause with a single and triple and drove in four runs. Jake MacDonald singled, doubled and collected two RBI.

For the Mets, Colby Roberts singled and doubled and Travis McAndrew and Finton Boudreau each drove in a run. Zander McKeigan and Roberts pitched for the Mets.

The peewee/bantam division plays games on Mondays and Wednesdays, while the eight-team mosquito league sees action in Truro and Bible Hill on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
