Jr. B Elks fall to Blazers in home opener

BROOKFIELD, N.S. – The Brookfield Elks blew a two-goal lead in the third period and lost 6-4 to the Sackville Blazers on Thursday in their home opener in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

It was Brookfield’s second straight loss to Sackville this week, coming after a 5-4 shootout defeat on Monday.

The Elks carried a 4-2 lead into the third period of Thursday’s game at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex, however, the Blazers scored four unanswered goals to come away with a hard-fought road victory.

Coby Crowell led the Elks with a pair of goals, while Cole Fielding had a goal and an assist and Liam Giffen had two helpers. Jonah Allen had the other Brookfield marker.

Jack Berrigan scored twice for the Blazers, while Connor Theriault and Carter Nickerson each chipped in a goal and an assist. Nicholas McFarlane and Michael Hardie also scored for the winners.

The Elks, winless in three games to start the season, play in Cole Harbour on Friday. Their next home game is Oct. 12 when they host the Cumberland County Blues at the sportsplex for a 7:30 p.m. start.
