CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Jody Jamieson has won numerous top events in North American harness racing but one race that has eluded the two-time World Driving Champion is The Guardian Gold Cup and Saucer.

That could all change starting tonight at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Jamieson will drive Asap Hanover in Trial 2 for the Gold Cup and Saucer on Race 11 of the Monday evening program. Owned by John Mehlenbacher of Oakville, Ont., who also owns Trial 1 winner Somewhere Fancy, Asap Hanover will leave from Post 4 in the $12,500 trial. Jamieson’s wife, Stephanie Jamieson, owns the pacer who has been competing on the Woodbine Entertainment Group circuit in Ontario, taking a mark of 1:51.4 this season.

Jamieson has competed in the Gold Cup and Saucer before, winning the consolation and a pair of trials but has never landed in the winner’s circle in the final race of Old Home Week.

Always N The Money has the rail in Trial 2 with Travis Cullen in the bike for trainer Jodie Cullen, race timed in 1:50.1 in his latest outing. Lincolnjames has Post 3 as third choice in the trial with Anthony MacDonald also looking to win his hometown race after numerous appearances in the final. Jamie Smith trains Lincolnjames for owner Thestable.ca, who will be selling 15 shares in the pacer after his race to give fans a chance to own part of a Gold Cup and Saucer finalist.

Other entries include Bet On Brett (Louis-Philippe Roy), Newbie (Harry Landy), In Spades (J Harris) and Czar Seelster (Kenny Arsenault).

Today’s races will also feature the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts on the afternoon program with a 1 p.m. post time while the evening card kicks off at 7 p.m.
