Tibbo, a forward for the Truro Bearcats, was named Gongshow Gear Canadian Junior Hockey League second star for the month of January.

It’s the first time this season a player from The Maritime Junior Hockey League has received a CJHL three-star selection.

In eight January games, the 20-year-old from Conception Bay South, N.L., scored 10 goals and added six assists.

From Jan. 14 to 27, Tibbo registered five consecutive multi-point games, including a hat trick and an assist on Jan. 15 against the Valley Wildcats and a goal and three assists vs. the Summerside Western Capitals on Jan. 19.

Tibbo, who won a Kent Cup championship with the Bearcats in 2014, found himself tied for the league lead in points at the end of January with 67. His 34 goals also led the MHL.

Entering play this week, Tibbo remains atop the league in goals and points with 36 and 71, respectively.

He is the first MHL player to receive a CJHL Gongshow Gear Three Star Selection nod since former Summerside forward Thomas Stavert took home second-star honours in November, 2015.

The first star of the month in the CJHL for January was Powell River Kings (BCHL) forward Jonny Evans, while Cumberland Grads (CCHL) forward Xavier Couture was named third star.
