Blackmore, 17, has been signed as a free agent by the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
He will make his Q-league debut tonight in Halifax against the Mooseheads.
“G is a smart, skilled forward that has had a tremendous year so far in midget, leading the league in points at this time. He’s a very competitive player, and plays a gritty, physical style of game in which we value with the Wildcats,” said Moncton assistant coach Erin King.
Blackmore, captain of the Weeks Major Midgets, is the Nova Scotia Midget AAA Hockey League leading scorer with 19 goals and 30 assists for 49 points in 28 games. He also leads the league in penalty minutes with 104.
Last season, as a rookie, Blackmore had 31 points in 38 games.
“His speed and his quickness are two attributes that should translate into him finding success at the junior level,” King said.
Blackmore, five-foot, nine, 160 pounds, is a Grade 12 student at Cobequid Educational Centre.
The Truro Bearcats hold Blackmore’s Maritime Junior Hockey League playing rights.
The rebuilding Wildcats are last in the QMJHL with a record of 13-23-1-0.
