Melanson’s late goal lifts ’Cats over Gulls

TRURO, N.S. – Jacob Melanson’s goal with 25 seconds left in the third period lifted the Truro Bearcats to a 3-2 win over The Gulls in Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League action on Sunday.

With the victory, the Bearcats improved to 9-0-0-3. They sit in second place with 21 points, just one point behind the league-leading Gulls (11-1-0-0).

Melanson’s late-third period marker was his second goal of the game. Merle Putnam also scored for the Bearcats, while Oliver Arnfast made 22 saves for the win.

On Saturday, the Bearcats dropped a 2-1 shootout decision to the All Credit Auto Rangers. Putnam had Truro’s lone goal.

Melanson is second in league scoring with 29 points (14G, 15A) in 12 games, while Putnam is third with 25 points (8G, 17A).
