Three second-period goals lifted the Truro Bearcats to a 5-3 victory over the Valley Wildcats Saturday in a Maritime Hockey League matchup at Kings Mutual Century Centre in Berwick.
The Bearcats trailed 2-1 after the opening frame but took the lead in the second, 4-3, then sealed the deal with an empty-netter by Dylan Burton, his second of the contest, late in the third.
Other Truro scorers were Campbell Pickard, with a goal and an assist, Cameron MacLeod and Curtis Heffernan, while Alex MacDonald chipped in with two assists and Karter Renouf and Gavin Hart picked up an assist each.
The Bearcats outshot the Wildcats 35-28.
The Bearcats (9-7-0-0) remain fourth in the MHL’s Eastlink South Division with 18 points. The South Shore Lumberjacks (14-4-0-0) continue to assert themselves as a force to be reckoned with, holding down the division’s – and the league’s – top spot with 28 points. Yarmouth Mariners (13-3-0-0) are close on their heels with 26 and Amherst Ramblers (9-3-2-2) are third in the division with 22.
The Edmundston Blizzard (13-3-0-0) have 26 points and an 11-point lead on their closest competition, St. Stephen Aces (7-10-0-1) in the Eastlink North Division.
This Friday the Bearcats host the Amherst Ramblers for a 7 p.m. matchup at the Rath-Eastlink Community Centre. After that, they won’t see action again until Friday, Nov. 17 when they entertain the league-leading Lumberjacks for a 7 p.m. start.
