G Blackmore’s third-period goal was the winner as the Bearcats edged the Miramichi Timberwolves 3-2 on Wednesday in Game 6 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
The teams will play Game 7 for all the marbles on Friday at the Miramichi Civic Centre, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The winner will represent the MHL at the Fred Page Cup Eastern Canadian championship next week in Terrebonne, Que.
Makail Parker of the Timberwolves opened the scoring on Wednesday at 5:41 of the first period. Cameron MacLeod got the Bearcats on even terms at 13:10 of the second to set up a thrilling third.
Connor Morrison gave Truro a 2-1 lead with his first goal of the playoffs at 2:01 of the final frame, however, Eddie Banville answered for the Timberwolves a minute later.
Blackmore netted the winner at 10:53 after he picked up a rebound off a Kyle Tibbo shot and fired it behind Timberwolves goaltender Tanner Somers from in close.
Blackmore, from Millbrook, joined the Bearcats for their playoff run after his major midget team in Pictou County was eliminated from the post-season. He hasn’t looked out of place and has nine goals and four assists in 14 playoff games.
Bearcats goaltender Jason Rioux, as he’s been throughout the playoffs, was brilliant. He made 33 saves for his 11th win of the playoffs. His best stop came with six minutes remaining when he made a glorious glove stop to preserve the lead.
Sommers faced 27 shots.
The home team has won every game in the final series.
