The Bearcats fell 8-2 to the Quebec champion Terrebonne Cobras in the opening game for both teams at the Eastern Canadian junior A hockey championship.
Truro won’t have time to dwell on the loss, as the Bearcats return to action Thursday against Le College Francais de Longueuil at 5 p.m.
The Bearcats started slow against the Cobras and trailed 4-0 just over five minutes into the contest and 5-1 after the first period.
Captain Kyle Tibbo and alternate captain Zach Moody scored goals for the Bearcats, while Tyler Pyke had two assists.
Goaltender Jason Rioux was peppered with 43 shots, while his teammates fired 25 shots at Cobras netminder Jeremy Belisle.
Special teams played an important role for the Cobras, who scored twice while shorthanded and added two more on the power play. Both shorthanded goals were scored on the same Bearcats power play just over two minutes into the game.
In another contest Wednesday, Le College Francais de Longueuil edged the Carleton Place Canadians 2-1.
