Truro finished its schedule commitments in Pictou County last Thursday. The hometown Crushers were out of the gate quickly, showing why there were the top MHL team over the 50-game schedule.
The Bearcats grew as a team over the season. Since Christmas they put together an awesome 18 -4 record.
That gave them second spot in their division and third overall. For a team starting with seven rookies and a handful of returnees, that’s impressive.
Whether at home (19 wins) or on the road (16 wins), this Bearcat team showed if they stuck to their game plan, good things can happen.
The real season begins tonight. Everything to this point is in the books.
Bearcat – Mariner season conjures up some vivid memories of series’ past. This one should be a dandy.
The clubs met six times this year. The Bearcats won them all. There were three shootouts, two blowouts and one hockey game.
Two points separate them in the standings. Truro has confidence in its game but clearly respects its opponent.
Bearcat success is based on its forecheck, the backbone of the Bearcat brand.
The need to play a strong, physical game on a shift-by-shift basis is mandatory. Consistency with this age group can be a problem. It has to be managed.
The Bearcats enter the post-season with a full and healthy lineup. They’re being asked to play to their strengths and capabilities.
For sure, the same is expected from the Mariners, or, for that matter, any of the eight teams involved in playoff action.
Bearcat fans will note a change in ticket price for the playoffs – adult $11, senior/student $9, while students under 12 remain at $2.
