TRURO, N.S. – The Bearcats are staying on script.
It’s been a good one, providing just reward for the accepted style of play. Hard work has paid off.
Thursday, in Bridgewater, the team’s four-game win streak came to an end, but not for want of trying. There was no quit.
Truro came back twice to tie the game, accounting for the only scoring in the third period. In OT, anything can happen.
This was the third consecutive week the Bearcats went to that South Shore arena. They came out with two points in each of the first two, but settled for a single this time.
The Bearcat response was quick. Friday, they scored early, then in each period. The visiting Timberwolves were unable to reply.
The shutout was indicative of a very strong team performance from the crease out. It was continuation of a brand of hockey they’ve bought into.
Over the two games, goaltending was as strong as was the team’s forecheck. The team scored five-on-five, on the power play and shorthanded.
It was another good week of Bearcat hockey. It sets the stage for another challenging week.
This weekend, they continue a welcomed homestand. Friday, the Pictou County Crushers are in town, followed by a Saturday visit from the Campbellton Tigers.
The Crushers are Truro’s closest rivals in many respects. Both teams are aware this is a huge game.
While the Bearcats are looking for greater separation in the standings, the Crushers are looking to close the gap. Need there be any greater motivation?
Like the Bearcats, the Campbellton Tigers are in fourth spot in their division, just a bit more solidly.
The Bearcats have won the previous two outings, but the Tigers, in striking range of third spot in the North, want the points badly.
The stretch run is exciting for the fans, more so for the players who were inconsistent big time in the early going, but are now very much a team on the same page.
