TRURO, N.S. – Three members of the Truro Bearcats were slapped with suspensions by the Maritime Junior Hockey League Monday.

Head coach Shawn Evans and forward Denver Lynds were handed two-game bans, while forward Tyler Pyke will miss one game.

The suspensions came as a result of last Saturday’s home game against the Pictou County Crushers.

Evans was suspended for behaviour detrimental to the league after a confrontation with Crushers coach Doug Doull near the end of the contest. Doull was also suspended for two games.

“I just felt from my end, at some point I have to stand up for my team, for my players and for my staff,” Evans said Monday. “I don’t have any regrets and if I had to do it again, I’d do it again.”

Lynds was suspended after receiving a gross misconduct, while Pyke was banned for a being the third man in during a fight.

All of the incidents took place at 17:55 of the third period – a stoppage in play which resulted in more than 80 penalty minutes.

The Crushers won the game 5-2.

Evans can appeal his suspension, however, he didn’t confirm last night whether he will or not.
