Bearcats take Archibald in territorial draft, expansion draft tonight

TRURO - The Truro Bearcats used one of two selections in the Maritime Hockey League territorial draft to select forward Noah Archibald.

Archibald, a hometown kid, spent last season with Weeks Major Midget. The six-foot, 165-pound 18-year-old amassed six goals and 16 points in 33 regular season games. In playoff action, Archibald scored three goals and added one assist in six games.

The Bearcats opted to use only one of its two selections in the draft. In a change to the selection process, teams who forego a pick will receive a compensatory second or third round pick in the MHL Entry Draft. Previously, the picks would have been in the third or fourth round.

The team will now gear up for an expansion draft tonight, as the St. Stephen County Aces prepare to join the league next season. Each team will be allowed to protect 12 skaters and one goaltender, with the Aces allowed to take as many as two players from each team in the league. Restrictions are in place for 1996 and '97-born players who signed a junior A card as of Feb. 10, 2014. Territorial picks from the past two years are also off limits, and no trades can take place during the draft.

The entry draft will take place June 14 in Summerside, P.E.I., with the Aces holding the first pick.
