Halifax couple wins $4 million on Lotto Super 7

Gregory Bowdridge and Emma Rosborough arrived in Moncton on Tuesday to claim their share of the Friday Lotto Super 7 jackpot. The young Halifax couple won $4 million - one third of the $12 million jackpot that was shared by three tickets in Canada.

"I was in hyper mode," said Greg.

Greg purchased the ticket the evening of the draw on his way home from a friend's house. He called the winning numbers line and when all seven numbers matched one of the tickets he held, Greg hung up, checked to see if he was imagining what he'd just heard, then called the number again.

He raced down the stairs to tell Emma the good news but she assumed he was joking. Greg called the number a third time and held the phone to Emma's ear while she looked at the ticket.

Next, Greg hurried to a local store to have the ticket validated. "There was no containing myself", Greg said as he spoke of his reaction when the clerk at the store confirmed the $4 million win.

The couple has now shared the news with family and friends though Greg's joking days have slowed the process of getting people to believe them. As Emma said, "We've always joked about [winning the lottery]" so convincing some people has taken time.

Emma, a student, and Greg, a boat builder, say that a vehicle and a new home for their young family are likely part of their future but they have no other firm plans for the money at this time.

The winning ticket was purchased at Danielson's Tobacco in Halifax. It will receive a $40,000 seller's prize, which represents one per cent of the total prize.

On Monday, another Nova Scotian was also awarded a major prize. Jarvis Stewart of Truro, NS won the $100,000 TAG top prize from the Sept. 5 draw.
