CEC Cougars football squad loses home opener 13-11 on final play of the game

TRURO – The Cobequid Educational Centre Cougars lost a heartbreaker Sunday as they hosted Sir John A. Macdonald Flames of Halifax in the opener of their NSSAFFL season.

The teams were tied 8-8 at the half and CEC went ahead with a field goal in the third quarter to take an 11-8 lead that stood up until late into the fourth quarter. Backed up in their own end on third down, CEC gave up a two-point safety to give themselves some breathing room, making the score 11-10. Then the Flames marched back down and kicked a field goal as the clock ran down to take the 13-11 win.
