Cougars hammer Gryphons in high school boys’ soccer

TRURO, N.S. – The Cobequid Cougars erupted for four goals in a span of five minutes in the second half en route to a 7-1 triumph over the North Nova Gryphons on Tuesday in high school boys’ soccer action.

Graham Thurston of the Cobequid Cougars chases Isaac MacDonald of the North Nova Gryphons.

The Cougars led 1-0 at the half before the Gryphons pulled even early in the second.

Cobequid then took firm control of the match with the offensive outburst to salt the game away.

Drew Mumford and Tyler MacNeil each netted two goals for the Cougars, while Ben Lauther, Gabriel Tremblay and Brendan Maguire potted singles.

In girls action, the Cougars clipped the Gryphons 3-1 on Tuesday.

CEC goals were scored by Sophie Shepherd, Sarah MacCallum and Emily White.

The Cougars return to the pitch Thursday for a home game against the Northumberland Nighthawks, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at CEC Field.
