TRURO, N.S. – The Cobequid Cougars boys’ volleyball team defeated the Three Oaks Axemen from Summerside in straight sets (25-18, 25-22) to win the 34th annual Westisle Wolverine Classic.
CEC went undefeated in preliminary play, defeating Three Oaks (27-29, 25-19, 21-19), West Kings (25-9, 25-16), Colonel Gray (25-6, 25-9) and Montague (25-6, 26-24).
The Cougars beat Westisle (25-18, 25-7) in the quarter-finals, and Sackville (25-14, 25-11) in semifinal action.
CEC had contributions from Ryan McEachren (27 perfect passes, 33 kills), Adam McEachren (72% passing, 12 service points, 21 digs), Sean Gallie (nine block points, 9-0 dig to error ratio, 35 per cent kill efficiency), Thomas Vickers (14 perfect passes, 10 block points), Dean Berry (13 service points, nine block points), Dean Sangster (seven block points, 10 digs), Sam Lilly (18 kills), and Jacob MacGregor (eight digs).
Setters Austin Atkinson (13 serve points, 11 digs) and David Sandeson (55 percent offensive serving) dished out 109 assists.
Gallie was selected a tournament all-star and Ryan McEachren was tournament MVP.
