NAPANEE, ONT. – The Colchester Royals’ record has slipped below .500 after a pair of losses at the 2018 U19 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championship in Napanee, Ont.
Heading into a game tonight at 7:15 p.m. against the Chepstow Land Farms of Ontario, the Royals sit with three wins and four losses.
Thursday evening Colchester was edged by Caledonia Haldimand Athletics of Ontario, 2-1, despite out-hitting them 6-4.
In Friday’s early game, the Royals fell to Shellbrook Rangers of Saskatchewan 4-1.
Thursday, the Athletics scored once in the second and the teams exchanged a run each in the third, and that would be the extent of the scoring.
At the plate, Noah Berniquer had a single and a triple for Colchester and scored the lone run. Keegan Crowell went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, while Cameron Patton had a single and drove in their only run, and Brendan Walker also added a single.
Pitcher Nathan Landry took the loss.
Earlier today, three runs by Shellbrook in the third inning proved the difference as they went on to a 4-1 win over Colchester.
Patton, who went three innings and took the loss, and Callum Bouma each had a pair of singles for the Royals, while Walker added one.
At 3-4, the Royals sit behind six teams in the standings: host Napanee (6-1); Caledonia Haldimand (ON) and Prince Albert (SA) (both at 5-1); and Chepstow Lang Farms (ON), Chayee Bourras, (NL), and Delisle (SA) (all at 4-3).
Following play today, teams will be placed for playdowns beginning Saturday morning.
