BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – Masstown goaltender Lily Currie has been busy at this week’s Esso Cup national female midget AAA hockey championship.

Currie started between the pipes for the Northern Subway Selects for the team’s first three tournament games.

She made 18 saves in a 3-1 victory over Metro Boston Pizza in the opening game on Sunday and followed up with a 36-save effort in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Brampton Canadettes on Monday. On Tuesday, Currie turned aside 24 pucks in a 4-2 setback to Pionnnieres de Lanaudiere at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.

Currie had the day off yesterday, as the Selects lost to defending champion St. Albert Slash 4-1. They will need a win today in their final preliminary game against the Saskatoon Stars for a chance to advance to the medal round.

Currie is one of three Colchester County residents playing for the Selects. Forward Maddie Quinn, of Bible Hill, had the lone goal for the Selects in Wednesday’s loss and also had an assist in Game 1. Defenceman Lindsey Smith, of Masstown, has two helpers in the tournament.
